Good opener for boys

EXCELLENT weather brought out a big field for the opening Kent Young Athletes League meeting at the Julie Rose Stadium on Sunday.
Hosts Ashford were the overall winners in the boys while Blackheath and Bromley led the way in the girls pursued by Tonbridge and Ashford.
Oliver Marsh had a fine day for the Ashford U13s winning the shot comfortably with 5.62m in a double with Kian Crawford (5.15m) and then took second in the 800m with 2:54.5 and a third in the 75m hurdles (17.2).
Kian had another B string win in the javelin with 12.46m with Alex Peacock second in the A event with 12.59m and in a busy day Kian also was fourth in the 100m and ran a leg in the relay which saw Ashford claim second place.
Alex had a B string win in the discus (14.23m) in another club double with Ed Miller the A winner with a superb 18.51m. Alex was was third in the b high jump with A points taken by Joseph Whitby and good contribution by Giles Manning.
Jack Goss was the U15 star winning the 3000m in fine style with 9:44.64 with Declan Burton second in the B race (11:12.65).
The only double came in the walks won by Sam Marsh (8:34.82) and Zac Shaikh (8:49.96).
Lewis Hagger won the B discus with 14m with Alex Lynch second in the A event with a challenging 20.51m and Alex was also second in the shot with 8.69m, third in the A 100m with 13.0 and helped the 4x100m relay squad to third with Ben Isaac, Shaikh and Marsh.
Ben was second in a A 80m hurdles and third in the 200m.
Valuable points were also secured by Owen Morgan, Daniel Steadman, Kyle Denning and Aaron Meakin.
The girls were third overall after a superb second place by the U13 squad.
Two doubles were secured with Felicity Endacott and Jessica Carley winning the 1200m walk and Emelia Isaac and Jessica Box dominating the javelin.
Felicity grabbed a second win taking the discus honours with 15.32m and a second in the B shot which was won overall by teammate Hannah Owen with a tightly contested 6.71m. Hannah was also third in the 150m and fourth in the high jump.
Ruby Cox won the A 70m hurdles with Emelia fourth in the B race and Ruby was also second in the 100m (10.7) with Alexandra Prickett second in the B race (11.7).
Good points were added by Jaimee-Ann Heyes, Jessica Box, Eleanor Potter and Charlotte McGowan.
The U15 squad were tested all the way with the best result coming in the discus where Mary Coleman took second in the A event with 15.75m and Rebecca Cock won the B points with a fine 11.02m.
All the girls battled well with points from Ciara Ewart, Ivy Manning, Annamarie Gould, Jade Goss, Ellie Gooding and Charlotte Tappenden.

U13s show the way

A SUPERB display by Ashford U13 boys helped keep the club in the title race in the Kent Young Athletes League meeting at Erith.
They finished a fine second spurred by three double successes and victory in the relay.
Alex Lynch led the way winning the 75m hurdles with Ben Isaac taking the B string honours and they were joined by George Hogben and Luke Busumbru to take the 4x100m relay. Lynch also also took second in the long jump and third in the 200m.
Another winning double came in the discus where Luke dominated the A event winning with 19.25m while Lewis Hagger took B honours with a fine 13.17m.
Isaac had a convincing win in the A javelin with 25.64m with Edward Miller the B winner with an equally impressive 22.48m. Ben also won the B 200m while Miller secured victory in the B 100m.
Hagger also capped a busy day with second in the B high jump wher Hogben finished third in the A event and Lewis was also second in the B shot with George third in the A throws.
Also in action were Jacob Sivyer and Sam Marsh.
The U15 boys were lifted by a a double second in the 100m from Nathan Fatola and George McClennan.
Nathan was also third in the long jump, fifth in the discus and anchored the 4x100m squad that took a fine second along with Temi Banwo, Max Reeves and Wesley Potter.
McClennan notched a very close second on the line in the 400m and was fourth in the 800m where Declan O’Driscoll was third in the B race.
Other thirds came from Reeves in the A 80m hurdles and B discus and Potter in the B long jump.
The U13 girls also had a good day just edged into third while the U15s emulated the boys by also taking fifth.
Young Emem Umoh was the U13 star winning the 150m on the line with Eleanor Potter third in the B race and Emem also won the B javelin, where Annamarie Gould was second in the A event, and was also second in the A long jump.
Eleanor won the B 1200m walk with Amber Guyatt in second in the A walk and there wasa double second for Amber and Annamarie in the 600m.
Emem was joined by Mary Coleman, Georgia Bamford and Emily Hamlyn for second in the 4x100m relay. There was another two A & B second places in the discus for Coleman and Rebecca Cock while in the shot Coleman was third in the A competition and Bamford second in the B contest.
There were three victories for the U15 squad with Lauren Bamford winning the A 75m hurdles convincingly and Rebecca Roddy claimed A success and Charlotte Roberts the B honours in the 1200m walk.
Lauren also claimed thirds in the A 300m and shot and a second in the 4x100m relay along with Hamlyn, Amber Currie and Hester Hill.
Hester was third in A high jump and B discus while there were A and B thirds for Hamlyn and Currie in the long jump and Polly Abbott and Erin Maxwell in the javelin.
The girls’ teams finished third overall on the day.

Great start to Summer Track Season
Kent Young Athletes League 1
30 athletes represented AAC and team finished third. AAC Team Managers are Pat Hanys and Fiona Sime. This is a local (Kent) competition for Under 13 and 15 boys and girls. It takes place on Sundays is set up to introduce children to competitive athletics.

National Junior League 2
Team finished 4th and well on track for targeted mid league finish. 23 athletes competed for AAC. Three or four more athletes would make a big (more…)
