THERE were fine runs by the Ashford AC trio Amelia Jones, Hester Hill and Jack Goss at the Inter Counties cross country championships at Reading.
Jack as a a superb eighth, and first Kent runner home in the boys while Amelia was a fine 24th in the Inter Girls with Hester 40th.
They also did well in the South of England championships at Parliament Hill with Jack a terrific 30th in a large Under 15 field clocking 16:33.
He was backed up by Declan O’Driscoll 126nd in 17:50 and Tim Forsyth 162nd in 18:21.
Amelia Jones was 60th in the Under 17 women with 23:04 and Hester Hill 117th in the U15 girls in 18:10.
Jack Wreathall had a fine 93rd in the U17 boys with 23:42 with Aaron Kellow 119th in 24:18.
In the U13 boys Kyle Denning clocked 13:34 for 112th place.
In such a busy period for the cross country runners there was a predicably small showing at the latest Kent League meeting at New Barn Park in Swanley.
Jack Goss was among the stars with a fine fourth in the U15s with 14:51 and the team were third on the day and second overall with support from Declan O’Driscoll eighth in 15:45 amd Tom Forsythe 15th in 16:25.
Andy Robertson was third in the U20 men with 19:19 while Kev Williams again ran consistently for 28th in the men with 39:37.
In the U13 boys Alex Weaver was 17th in 13:44 with Kyle Denning 21st in 13:49 while in the U17s Aaron Kellow was a fine ninth with 19:47 with Neil Daughters 13th in 20:44.
In the U15 girls Hester Hill was ninth with 13:53 with Charlotte Roberts was 22nd in 16:45 while Charlotte McGowan was 36th in the U13s with 13:25.
Amelia Jones again showed her strength with a terrific fifth in the U17s with 15:08 and Sam Beckett was seventh in the U20s in 17:59.

Busy time for cross country runners
Alligators growing
ASHFORD Athletic Club has used recent funding to provide new sports equipment for athletes who are members of the Ashford Alligators Athletics group, which provides coaching and competition for disabled youngsters.
Funding has also be secured for coach development activities to help raise awareness and understanding of working with athletes with disabilities/special needs such as attending specific courses and conferences.
“The club has had several success stories with disabled athletes particularly Candy Hawkins, Vicky Silk and Paralympics Medallist Jonathan Ward who attended four Paralympics games,” said Alligators coach Peter Le Rossignol. “This new equipment and funding for coach development will really help us support the next generation of potential Paralympians.”
Ashford Athletic Club is currently the only Kent athletics club with a specialised disability section. The Alligators is open to any young person with a disability aged 9 to 17 years old.
The club offers a fun introduction to sport with a focus on athletes but will include other sports All activities are led by highly experienced and qualified club coaches and offer close supervision to those attending (numbers are limited to 15 participants per session and must be booked in advance.
The Alligators are run Bi-weekly during school terms at the Julie Rose Stadium from 5.30-6.30pm. (All participants must be accompanies by a parent or carer). This facility holds an ‘Inclusive Fitness Initiative Facility’ certificate and has indoor and outdoor facilities which are fully accessible.

Schools success for trio
THERE some excellent performances from Ashford AC’s youngsters at the Kent Schools cross country championships at Swanley Park and again the star performer was Under 17 rising star Amelia Jones.
Amelia took county silver in the Kent championships the previous week and followed up with a bronze in the Intermediate girls event.
She was well supported by Hester Hill in 12th.
In the Junior girls there was a fantastic run by Amber Guyatt in ninth place, the twins Kate and Megan Lillington finished 40th and 51st and a strong performance by newcomer Charlotte Roberts in 55th.
The boys also ran well with Jack Goss taking a superb silver in the junior boys with teammate Timothy Foryth finishing third.
The duo, along with Amelia, gained automatic selection for the English Schools Cross Country championships in March.
In the senior boys Andrew Robertson finished an excellent ninth and Jack Wreathall was 13th in the inter boys race.
