Sportshall success

The Kent team

ASHFORD Athletics Club had 18 members selected to represent Kent in the Inter-County Sportshall Championships and for the second year running the Kent Under 13 girls team have won through to the National finals in Birmingham.
Emem Umoh took gold in the 4×2 lap relay and another victory in the Vertical Jump with a leap of 60cm. Charlotte Tappenden also took gold in the 4×2 lap relay and there was obstacle relay golds for Charlotte Dryland, Amber Guyatt and Hannah Owen.
Ashford also had eight U13 boys representing Kent with gold for Ben Isaac Standing in the triple jump with 7.57m.
There were also bronze medals for Lewis Hagger in the high jump(1.40m), Alex Lynch standing long Jump (2.20m).
Edward Miller, Sam Marsh, Owen Morgan, Oliver Marsh and Daniel Steadman won the 8 lap parlauf with Gabriel Ibitoye (Blackheath & Bromley).
Lauren Bamford was Ashford’s sole Kent representative in the U15 girls and the Ashford U15 boys in the Kent team were Nathan Fatola 2nd 2lap race, Temi Banwu, Jack Huxley and Kieran Regan.
All the teams did brilliantly against very tough opposition. Results can be viewed on the Aviva sporthall website.

Alligators growing

ASHFORD Athletic Club has used recent funding to provide new sports equipment for athletes who are members of the Ashford Alligators Athletics group, which provides coaching and competition for disabled youngsters.
Funding has also be secured for coach development activities to help raise awareness and understanding of working with athletes with disabilities/special needs such as attending specific courses and conferences.
“The club has had several success stories with disabled athletes particularly Candy Hawkins, Vicky Silk and Paralympics Medallist Jonathan Ward who attended four Paralympics games,” said Alligators coach Peter Le Rossignol. “This new equipment and funding for coach development will really help us support the next generation of potential Paralympians.”
Ashford Athletic Club is currently the only Kent athletics club with a specialised disability section. The Alligators is open to any young person with a disability aged 9 to 17 years old.
The club offers a fun introduction to sport with a focus on athletes but will include other sports All activities are led by highly experienced and qualified club coaches and offer close supervision to those attending (numbers are limited to 15 participants per session and must be booked in advance.
The Alligators are run Bi-weekly during school terms at the Julie Rose Stadium from 5.30-6.30pm. (All participants must be accompanies by a parent or carer). This facility holds an ‘Inclusive Fitness Initiative Facility’ certificate and has indoor and outdoor facilities which are fully accessible.

Hat-trick for Academy

THE Julie Rose Athletics Academy completed a super hat-trick of county Sportshall titles at the weekend.
The 29 youngsters were outstanding in claiming the title in the Kent Indoor Sportshall championships at Canterbury winning the trophy for the third time in a row with all securing personal best performances.
Each athlete gave it 110 per cent making it an almost clean sweep of individual medals.
Delighted head coach Jacqi Snare would barely contain her pride in her squad as they were a credit to the fine coaching squad at the Julie Rose Stadium.
The successful squads were Kiera Isteed, Harry Amos, Jake Timmins, Hannah Graham, Sienna Farrance, Jemma Coales, Alex Peacock, Faith Cox, Rebbeca Humphries, Max Sayer, Jacqueline Benson, Aileen Williams, Jamie Fuller, Curtis Hagger, Ewan Wood, Thomas Keaveney, Josie Samsun, Kian Crawford, Millie Issac, Jaimee Ann Heyes, Joseph Whitby, Alex Pricket, James Syreet, Emily Samsun,George Mayer, Mathew Bamford, Jessica Box, Jessica Carley and Giles Manning.
