ASHFORD took two athlete of the match awards from their opening Southern League meeting at Woking after fine performances by Debbie Martin and Ellie Gooding.
Debbie was just shy of her personal best winning the A high jump with 1.70m and the talented 19 -year-old added victories in the B long jump and triple jump and a third in the shot.
Ellie was in sparkling form dominating the A pole vault with a personal best 3.85m and set further bests winning the A 100m hurdles in 15.5 seconds and her third in discus.
Another Ashford star was Rachel Hanagan after victories in the A 100 and 200m, as well as the A long jump and triple jump. The all rounder also added seconds in the A shot and B discus as well as fourths in the A hammer and javelin in an astonishing display.
Young Charlotte Tappenden made it a double success for Ashford in the high jump with a B victory in 1.35m and claimed second in the B 200 with a personal best and third in the B 100m.
Another double came in the pole vault with B victory for Lana-Emily Foyle with a personal best 2.90m and she added a third in the B 100m hurdles and fourth in the B javelin.
Ashford missed vital points particularly in the middle distance events but there were fine supporting roles from Amanda Jukes and Lesley Hall. Ashford took second in the sprint relay.
Gary Carr secured vital sprint points for the men winning the 100 and was second in the 200 and even turned his hand to shot to gain points.
Young Ash Buckman had a double success winning the B high jump in a personal best 1.60m and the B triple jump in a club double with Steve Lake who took the A honours. Lake also was second in the B long jump.
Another club double came in the steeplechase from Andy Robertson in a personal best 7:06.9 and Warren Uden who took the B points. Warren was second in the B 800m matching rising star Neil Daughters who was second in the A event in a personal best 2:04.4.
Tom Williams won the B 100m in another club double and there was a victory for Dylan Jones in the B 1500m. Dylan also was second in the A 5000m in a personal best 18:13.7.
Luke Williams had a busy day with second in the A pole vault, third in the A 110m hurdles and fourths in the A discus and javelin.
Stuart Chisholm was second in the B pole vault and Robertson was also second in the B 400m hurdles. Matt Hogben was narrowled edged into second in the A high jump and added second in the B 5000m and thirds in the B 400 and B 110m hurdles.
Jacob Lane took third in the A 400m hurdles and added points in the B javelin while youngsters Kyle Denning and Lewis Smith gained valuable experience mixing it with the senior athletes, Even team mentor Pete Le Rossignol joined the fray.
Ashford had to settle for third place overall in a start which sees all their meetings being competed for on the the road this season.

Girls shine in opening clash
Triple tops for Rachel
ASHFORD’S Rachel Hanagan exploded out of the blocks to take an Athlete of the Match award in the club’s Southern League meeting at Chelmsford.
She clocked 12.7 to win the A 100m in an excellent day for the club’s women but the men were below par as Ashford slipped to fourth on the day.
Katie Keet went close to making it a sprint double second in the B race but Rachel was outstanding adding victories in the A long jump (5.18m) and triple jump (11.23m) in a double with rising star Debbie Martin who notched three wins on the day.
In addition to her B wins in the jumps (4.73 and 9.89m respectively) Debbie secured a convincing victory in the A high jump with 1.60m in another club double with Laura Hanagan who took the B event with 1.50m.
Ashford’s pole vaulters again came good Ellie Gooding second in the A event with 3.20m and Emmeline Rendell winning the B vault with 2.70m.
It was a similar story in the 100m hurdles with Laura Hanagan second in a personal best 15.5 and Ellie winning the B race with 15.7.
Young Lana-Emily Foyle gained good points with a pb 9:54.2 in the B steeplechase and javelin as did Amanda Jukes in the 400m and 800m and Amelia Jones in the A steeplechase and B 400m/800m.
Ashford’s women also shone in relay winning the 4x100m event.
Pick of the men was Chris Blandford with seconds in the A discus with a personal best 33.23m; javelin and B shot plus fourth in the B hammer with Luke Williams taking second in the A pole vault; B javelin and B 1500m. Pete Le Rossignol also had a second in the B pole vault.
There were personal bests in the A and B 3000m for Matt Britten (9:34.1) and Matt Iles (10:59.3) and Tom Williams in the A 400m hurdles (59.4). Andrew Robertson has a best in the A 3000m steeplechase by 11:20.7.
Fine double for Morsia
MATT Morsia had another fine day in the Southern League meeting at Luton picking up two athlete of the match awards for his wins in the long and triple jump.
There was also an athlete of the match award for rising star Debbie Martin with the U20 high jump ace seeing off all her rivals with a convincing 1.70m clearance.
She also had a personal best effort in the shot and a third in the long jump.
Morsia was again too hot for his rivals winning the long jump with 6.92m and triple jump with 14.42m with good support from Steve Lake with seconds in both B events.
Young Ellie Gooding was soaring again winning the A pole vault with a 3m clearance and gave Ashford the double by winning the B high jump with a 1.40m leap. Another Under 17 athlete making great strides Lana-Emily Foyle won the B pole vault with a fine 2.50m and she added pbs in the A javelin with 18.02m and A discus with 17.14m.
Rachel and Laura Hanagan enjoyed wins in a triple jump double for the club Rachel taking the A event with 11.22m and younger sister Laura recording 11.04m in the B event.
Laura also picked up vital points in hammer and the 100m and Rachel did creditably in the shot.
Sam Beckett had a splendid win in the 400m hurdles and battled away in the B discus and there was good support from Abbie Purkiss, Amanda Jukes, and Kim Smith who had a personal best in the B javelin.
Ashford’s 4x400m women also secured a fine victory.
It was a much tougher day for the men and apart from Morsia the only other win came in the B pole vault where Stuart Chisholm cleared 3.40m for victory but there was good support in the A vault from Luke Williams who made 3.70m but had to settle for second place.
Veteran Jon Ward had two fine seconds in the A shot and discus as well as a third in the hammer and there were personal bests in the B discus and B hammer for M50 vet Iain Presnell who also competed in the B javelin.
Despite the sterling efforts of sprinter Gary Carr, Matt Hogben, Dylan Jones and Pete Davey Ashford had to settle for fourth place in the meeting which was curtailed by an injury to an athlete on the track meaning just 47 of the 72 events were completed.
