Duo lead the way

ASHFORD had another excellent day at the Kent Sportshall competition at Folkestone with Cameron Amadee winning the U13 boys section in style from teammate George Maher.
Cameron topped the list with 727 points from the five events winning the vertical jump with 65 from Ashford’s Jordan Rogers (53); the standing long jump 2.16m from Maher (2.12) and the four lap race in 55.9 from Maher 59.8.
George was also second in the shot (8.40m) with Cameron (6.60) third while Ashford’s Oliver Marsh, fourth overall, won the speed bounce with 79 with George third with 77.
Overall Kian Crawford was sixth, Rogers ninth and Jake Timmins 11th.
Best of the U13 girls was Eleanor Potter who was fourth with 675 points missing third by a single point while just a point behind her was Hannah Owen on 674 with Emilia Isaac sixth with 653.
Other fine Ashford displays came from Eve Graham eighth with 634, Jaimee-Ann Heyes ninth 630, Alex Prickett 11th 600, Jessica Box 12th 598, Chloe Ford 14th 588, Jemma Coales 18th 537, Daniella Godden 523, Alice Browning 21st 439 and Madison Longley 434 making Ashford second, third and fifth best teams.
In the individual competitions Eleanor won the vertical jump with 53cm and was second in the standing long jump (2.11m) from Alex (2.04m).
Jaimee-Ann won the speed bounce with 87 with Hannah and Alex third with 80 while Hannah won the four lap race in 58.3 with Emilia third in 59.6.
Ellie Gooding was a fine third in the U15 girls holding off teammates Ciara Ewart and Charlotte Tappenden with Emem Umoh seventh with Ashford second placed team overall.
Charlotte won the speed bounce with 90 from Ciara 88 while Ellie was second in the four lap race and third in the standing long jump and Emem second in the vertical jump.
There was another huge U11 entry with Julie Rose Juniors 10th led by Thomas Kenveney third in the speed bounce with 54 and 10th in the standing triple jump while Faith Cox was fourth in the vertical jump.
Other fine shows came from Alysha Strain and Jacqueline Benson.

Ben takes national title

ASHFORD Athletic Club can boast another national champion following victory by Ben Isaac in the Aviva National Sportshall finals at NEC in Brmingham.
Ben, a student at Maidstone Grammar, won the Under 13 standing triple jump in his first national finals with a tremendous leap of 7.55m.
He was one of only three U13 athletes to be invited as an individual following his success in the South East Regional finals at Burgess Hill earlier in the spring and he claimed the title beating off a field of 24 to win by a clear 30cm over his nearest rival.
Ashford’s U13 girls Charlotte Tappenden, Charlotte Dryland, Emem Umoh and Hannah Owen helped the Kent team to a creditable sisth place out of the 12 regional final winners.
There were golds for Hannah and Charlotte Dryland as part of the obstacle race team and Charlotte just missed out on another medal taking fourth in the speedbounce with 86 – just one off the medal placing.
The other two Ashford girls also just missed out on a medal with Charlotte Tappenden and Emem fourth in the two lap relay and Emem was just one centimetre off a medal place in the vertical jump with another fourth finish with 57cm.
Charlotte Tappenden also ran a fine two lap race finnishing the best of the talented Kent girls.
Kent also had two other national champions with Diana Adegoke from Thanet AC winning the standing long jump with 2.51m and Invicta’s Rhiannon Wallwork taking the four lap gold in 48.80. Rhiannon also just missed gold in the standing triple jump by one centimetre securing silver with a leap of 7.17m.

Hat-trick for Academy

THE Julie Rose Athletics Academy completed a super hat-trick of county Sportshall titles at the weekend.
The 29 youngsters were outstanding in claiming the title in the Kent Indoor Sportshall championships at Canterbury winning the trophy for the third time in a row with all securing personal best performances.
Each athlete gave it 110 per cent making it an almost clean sweep of individual medals.
Delighted head coach Jacqi Snare would barely contain her pride in her squad as they were a credit to the fine coaching squad at the Julie Rose Stadium.
The successful squads were Kiera Isteed, Harry Amos, Jake Timmins, Hannah Graham, Sienna Farrance, Jemma Coales, Alex Peacock, Faith Cox, Rebbeca Humphries, Max Sayer, Jacqueline Benson, Aileen Williams, Jamie Fuller, Curtis Hagger, Ewan Wood, Thomas Keaveney, Josie Samsun, Kian Crawford, Millie Issac, Jaimee Ann Heyes, Joseph Whitby, Alex Pricket, James Syreet, Emily Samsun,George Mayer, Mathew Bamford, Jessica Box, Jessica Carley and Giles Manning.
