Cross Country Training Session
Posted: 21st Sep 2017 by Lewis Smith
Briony Walsh and Philip Heathfield will be holding a cross country training session on Saturday, 30th September from 09:00-12:00. This will be held at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College.
This is a chance for our cross country team to get a taste for the event, especially if they have never competed before. The session will last three hours, and it will consist of basic drills and warm ups, pace judgement and hill work, and hopefully a lake relay if we get enough athletes to the training session.
It is a beautiful country park in Saltwood, Hythe with a school attached. Briony knows the area well as an ex-Brockhill student. If parents wish to hang about then there is plenty to do, and you can bring dogs to the location; there is also a cafe!
Just be aware the parking is pay and display at £2.50 for the day. Briony would like to meet everyone in the main car park of the country park.
Spikes are optional if you wish to bring them, but there will be certain parts which will be rather muddy! Also spare warm clothing is a must, and a towel just in case! Please bring plenty of water and fuel food such as bananas.
Coaches are welcome to help and assist.
If you need any further information please do not hestitate to contact Briony on Facebook, mobile on 07854130446, or email at email@example.com - Thank you!
English Schools' Cross Country Championships

Ashford AC's talented long distance athlete, Oliver Prior, competed at the English Schools' Cross Country Championships on Saturday, 18th March 2017. This was a huge achievement for Oliver, with this only being his second season in the sport.
Oliver came 52nd out of 338 finishers. It was a very hard race with heavy rain, but that did not stop it from being a very fast race, with Oliver being only 1min 15 seconds behind 1st place. This was great race experience for the young runner.
It was a good day for Kent - they were the first full team (8 runners) back in his race (intermediate boys), winning the trophy and certificates. Overall they were 2nd for the Group A Counties for junior, intermediate, and senior boys and missed out on 1st place by just 1 point!
If you would like to see the race action then please follow the YouTube link below. Oliver appears at 3mins 40 seconds wearing the light blue Kent vest and bib number 245.
Oliver is now hoping to get the qualifying time for the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships 2017 in Birmingham for 3000m.
We would like to wish Oliver the best of the luck for the forthcoming season.
