Kent Relay Team Record

Posted: 10th Jul 2018 by Lewis Smith

Kristian Samwell-Nash, Ashford Athletic Club's sole representative in the 2018 Kent U17 Track and Field Team, helped Kent win an astonishing 4x100m relay at the Inter-Counties U17 Championships in London on Sunday.

The event, this year at Lee Valley, brings together 8 Southern County Track and Field teams, with the very competitive 4x100m Relays being the highlight at the end of the day.

The Kent girls team went first and won beating a much fancied Sussex team and the boys, with a makeshift team, followed straight after. Its normal each year for Kent to nominate the best club teams to represent the county at the relay events, and this year it was the turn of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers. However, they turned up with just 3 athletes as they had an injured team member. Following Kristian’s recent success with the Kent Schools' Relay Team, he was called on to join the team at the last minute.

The team not only won convincingly, but broke the Kent County U17 4x100m record in 44.00. The team are now ranked 5th in the UK this year, just behind Kent U17 Schools' Relay Team who are ranked 2nd.

Kristian also competed for Kent in the 200m A-Race, continuing his great form with a time of 22.72s, just 0.04s off his personal best. Kristian will be joining up with the Kent Schools' Team this week, in preparation for the English Schools' Athletics Championships in Birmingham at the weekend. He will be competing in the 400m, but will have his eye on a coveted National medal with the 4x100m Relay Team.
