Ashford A.C. walkers shine on a cold December day with impressive times.

Jacqueline Benson ended 2018 as she started the year, with another Under 20 Women’s Club Record. This time competing in the Christmas Race-Walking Track Race over 5000m distance in Horsham. Jacqueline demolished her personal best time with 28m56s.  No less remarkable was Grace Whittingham, two years younger, who was only 9 seconds behind Jacqueline on her first ever race over the 5000m distance. It was a very close race with the top four girls together for most of the 12 ½ laps, until Jacqueline put in a powerful last 200 metres. Not to be outdone, relative novice Eve Cooper competed in the 2000 metre race walk, finishing in a time of 16m31s for 5th place in the Under 13’s race.

Meanwhile, over in Dublin with wind and rain, UK National 50km Champion, Jonathan Hobbs, competed in the Irish 20km Championships. Generously supported by Robowatch and competing as a guest alongside the current Olympic Silver Medallist from Guatamala, and others from Japan, Mauritius, Spain and Croatia, Jonathan finished 6th  in a new Senior Club record of 1hr43m37s.
