Ashford Athletic Club’s young star Kristian Samwell-Nash has won another National Silver medal.
The 16-year old, in only his second season competing indoors, won a coveted Silver medal at the England Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield on Sunday.
Kristian won his heat in style on the Saturday, and was the fastest Under-17 qualifier going into the final on Sunday. The final included the best sprinters in the country including the Scottish, Northern and Southern Champions. Kristian ran a strategic race overtaking everyone on the penultimate bend but was beaten to the line by last season’s fastest Under-15 400m sprinter in Europe. Kristian did, however, run an indoor PB of 50.29s, a time good enough to have been close to the medals in the Under-20’s final. Kristian is now ranked as the UK’s Number 3 for Under-17's 400m, and hopes to consolidate this position during the new outdoor season which starts in April.
Kristian has already run the fifth all-time fastest Under-17 300m indoor this winter, won the Metaswitch Indoor Games, and won a 400m Silver medal at the South of England Indoor Championships.
Kristian is now looking forward to finishing off his impressive winter season by attempting to regain his Kent Indoor 200m and 400m titles at the Kent Indoor Championships at Lee Valley, London, on March 16th and 17th.
