Since March, Ashford AC has seen a number of Club Records being beaten. On the road, Louis Small beat the Under-15 Boys 5km Record with a time of 16m28s. Marshall Smith also ran well over the 5km distance, beating the Under-20 Men’s and Senior Record with a time of 15m43s. Race-walker, Jacqueline Benson, beat the Under-20 Women’s 5km Record with a time of 23m42s. In the 10km, Marshall beat the Under-20 Men’s Record by 30 seconds with a time of 31m43s. With the marathons in full swing at the moment, Vicky Travis ran well in Brighton to beat the Vet-45 Women’s Marathon Record (3hr58m10s), having beaten the 20 Mile Record a month earlier (3hr00m14s).
There was similar success indoors for Ashford AC athletes. Libby Turbutt beat the Under-15 Girls Triple Jump Record with 10.83m, having only recently just taken the event up. Kristian Samwell-Nash ran an awesome time over the 200m with 22.25s, beating the Under-17 Men’s Record and Kent County Indoor Championship Record. Peter Davey also ran well indoors, beating the Vet-45 60m Hurdles (9.20s) and 200m (25.43s) Records respectively.
Jacqueline Benson has dominated the race walking events so far this season, despite it being just April. Having beaten other records earlier in the year, Jacqueline has carried on this great success over the past month. Jacqueline beat the Under-20 Women’s 10km Walk Record with a time of 1hr00m07s, and then went on to beat the 3000m Walk (17m05.40s) and 5000m Walk (28m56.20s) records in a matter of days.
On the track, Peter Davey has carried on his indoor success, beating the Vet-45 110m Hurdles (18.20s) and 400m Hurdles (66.90s) records comfortably on the same day. Kristian Samwell-Nash, having dominated the indoor season, has started off the outdoor season very well too. Kristian started off the season running 10.90s in the 100m, an unofficial Under-17 Men’s Club Record (due to it being wind-assisted). Kristian then competed over the 150m in Tonbridge on the weekend, running a time of 16.35s. This time beat the Under-17 Men’s Record by over a second and was an overall Senior Record, an impressive achievement. Furthermore, his time has ranked him eighth fastest of all time in the UK for Under-17 Men. Peter Davey (Vet-45 Men) and Libby Turbutt (Under-15 Girls) also competed in the 150m at Tonbridge, running 18.75s and 19.48s respectively. Both times being unofficial Club Records for their respective age groups (wind-assisted).
