Race walker, Jacqueline Benson of Ashford Athletic Club, became the youngest winner of the prestigious Enfield Walking League. Just for good measure she lead her club to third team overall. The League involved twelve races throughout 2019, attracting athletes from all over the South of England. In the past twenty years, it has been dominated by the big London clubs. However, Ashford AC has recently been proving otherwise. The race distances were over five or seven miles on the roads, or 5000 metres on the track. With the support of club mates Millie Morris, Grace Whittingham, Jon Hobbs, and veterans Lesley Hall and Chris Hobbs, it was touch and go for the team prize; but nineteen year old Jacqueline dominated the women’s League from the Spring.

Coach Chris Hobbs said “Jacqueline has worked hard all year on her technique and endurance and it’s starting to pay off. She deserves her success and I’m excited as to what she can do this year.”

Jacqueline also became Kent Junior Champion and was third in the British Under-20 10km Road Championships. “In 2020 I will be moving up to Under-23 age group and I’m hoping to build on the successes of 2019.”

Well done all.
