2020 Ashford Givaudan 10k Cancelled, but Charities Benefit.
It is with great regret that after much deliberation, and following a virtual Executive Meeting on 29th April, Ashford AC has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Ashford Givaudan 10k.
It is looking likely that social distancing will be here to stay for some time yet, and with 1200 runners and their supporters, organising the race would be an impossible task.
As part of our 10K Race Initiative, Givaudan kindly sponsor the Club each year (hence the name “Ashford Givaudan 10K”). This year we were to combine our efforts and work with Kent Association for the Blind. They are one of Givaudan's chosen charities and it is their 100th Year Celebration. The plan was that AAC would donate £1.00 from each runner's entry fee to KAB, along with any other fundraising ideas that they were going to use to enhance this year’s race.
Making the decision to cancel has been made with Givaudan's agreement. They have confirmed their commitment to maintaining their sponsorship of AAC for 2020, whether the race proceeds or not. They too recognise the need for the community to pull together in these unprecedented times, and they are also contributing by donating hand sanitiser, etc to local hospitals, doctors’ practices, care homes, etc.
We have discussed how best to use the money, and it was decided that as we were going to work with KAB this year, we would still make a donation to them.
AAC will keep a proportion to help towards maintaining the Club.
Kent Association for the Blind was given a donation from the Club sponsorship of £2000, as was Pilgrims Hospice Ashford. Both of these charities are supported by Givaudan and have worked with us on previous 10K Race Days. Like most charities this year, they will already have lost a tremendous amount of fundraising themselves.
The last £1,000 was donated to The Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service. As of the 6th May, we have heard that the £1000 from Ashford AC for Rising Sun has been match funded by another sponsor, so in effect Rising Sun now has £2,000 donated.
We have had some lovely appreciative letters back from the charities, which we would like to share with you:
KAB Pilgrims Hospice Rising Sun
In the meantime, please remember to stay safe and social distance.
We look forward to welcoming you next year, for the Ashford Givaudan 10k on Sunday 10th October.
