National Medal Success for Ashford Athletes

Following winning the South Eastern Cross Country Team Relay Championships a few weeks ago Ashford ACs U20 Mens Team of Wegahta Zerom, and twin brothers Jack and Louis Small continued to make history for Ashford at the weekend by winning a Silver medal at the English National Cross Country Relay U20 Championships in Mansfield Nottinghamshire.

180 elite athletes representing 60 teams lined up for the windy race over a challenging 3km course. Wegahta in his maiden season running Cross Country safely steered the team to a solid 15th place after a very fast and impressive start.

Jack Small took over in hot pursuit of several runners just ahead of him and steadily moved up from 15th to 5th producing one of the fastest individual times of the day.

He handed over to his experienced brother Louis who raced with steely determination to secure the silver medal behind the winning team from Shaftesbury Barnet, who had a team made up of Team GB athletes

This is the first time an Ashford male Team has ever won medals at this prestigious national event. All three athletes will now focus on racing as individuals for Ashford AC for the rest of the cross country season.
