English Schools' Cross Country Championships

Posted: 25th Mar 2017 by Lewis Smith

Ashford AC's talented long distance athlete, Oliver Prior, competed at the English Schools' Cross Country Championships on Saturday, 18th March 2017. This was a huge achievement for Oliver, with this only being his second season in the sport.

Oliver came 52nd out of 338 finishers. It was a very hard race with heavy rain, but that did not stop it from being a very fast race, with Oliver being only 1min 15 seconds behind 1st place. This was great race experience for the young runner.

It was a good day for Kent - they were the first full team (8 runners) back in his race (intermediate boys), winning the trophy and certificates. Overall they were 2nd for the Group A Counties for junior, intermediate, and senior boys and missed out on 1st place by just 1 point!

If you would like to see the race action then please follow the YouTube link below. Oliver appears at 3mins 40 seconds wearing the light blue Kent vest and bib number 245.

Oliver is now hoping to get the qualifying time for the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships 2017 in Birmingham for 3000m.

We would like to wish Oliver the best of the luck for the forthcoming season.
