UKYDL (Under 20/Under 17) Medway Park 24th. July 2016

Posted: 26th Jul 2016 by Andrea Bennett

The last UKYDL match of the season took place at the Medway Park track in Gillingham on Sunday amidst warm, blustery but dry conditions. The composite team, ATIP, comprising athletes from Ashford AC, Thanet AC, Invicta East Kent and Paddock Wood AC, were under pressure to maintain their position in the Southern Region North-East Division 1 league.

With many athletes unavailable to compete, Team Manager, Tina Tappenden, was relying on athletes to contest events they wouldn’t normally do, as well as performing to the best of their ability in the events they normally did.

Throughout the match, points totals were close in the seven team league with nothing decided until the end of the day. The efforts of the team were rewarded with a fourth place finish, keeping ATIP in fourth place overall, much to the relief of the Team Manager and all the team and supporters.

In addition to survival, the team amassed a total of 27 personal best performances. A testament to their excellent efforts.

UKYDL (U20/U17) Match 3Sunday 26th June at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham.

Posted: 7th Jul 2016 by Andrea Bennett

Power of 10 Results The third match of the upper age group UKYDL was a return to Sutcliffe Park with more optimism than the last match with a higher turnout of athletes, by switching between the age groups. The ATIP composite team comprised members from Ashford AC, Thanet AC, Invicta East Kent and Paddock Wood AC.  A big positive on the day was the weather, which was much better than the last meeting here, in fact sun cream was the order of the day.

There were a number of last minute withdrawals from the team which resulted in the need to rearrange the team assignments. However, despite the team being unable to cover some events there were many outstanding performances and personal best efforts including a number from the newcomers.  The personal best performances came from 16 track events and 12 field events, and there were also a number of season best performances. There were 12 first place finishes, 10 of which were in field events; very encouraging as there were no representatives in the team’s strong event, the pole vault.

Finishing in third place in the match was an excellent team- effort result, helping to sustain the team’s survival in this league. The final match will be on Sunday 24th. July at Medway Park, Gillingham.
