Southern Athletics League

Posted: 10th Mar 2018 by Lewis Smith

Message from SAL Team Managers, Becky and Derek:

First of all, Derek and Becky have met and wanted to update everyone on a few things!

They have chosen new team captains for this season, firstly thank you to Lewis and Hannah for all their efforts as captains last season. This season, Alexandra Prickett and Peter Davey have agreed to be our female and male captains respectively. They will be on hand to assist new and old athletes alike!

There will be free coach transport to all matches again from the Stadium, as well as Maidstone, for athletes and their families.

Last season was brilliant to see so many people out to compete, and it is hoped that we can do that and better this season.

Similarly to last season, awards will be given for junior and senior male and female athletes of the match, after each match.

Derek and Becky will start contacting eligible athletes by text or phone call in the next few weeks to get your availability. Derek is also at the track on Tuesday's and Thursday's, so please do catch up with him.

As per last season, the events will be filled as per season performances, the first match may be slightly different and of course they will try and ensure everyone gets to compete in their favoured events where possible!  Don’t forget you can do any event non-scoring (result will still go on the powerof10)!

The first match is on Saturday, 14th April in Thurrock. Please inform Derek and Becky your availability for this. Times and address details will soon follow.

The other match dates are:

SUNDAY (not Saturday), 20th May - Eastbourne
Saturday, 23rd June - St Albans
Saturday, 14th July - Ashford
Saturday ,18th August - Cambridge

Finally, Becky and Derek will be planning a get together for all athletes and families after our home match on July 14th, so please keep the evening free.

Let’s build on a fantastic 2017 season!

Becky and Derek

Southern Athletics League Round-Up

Posted: 25th Aug 2017 by Lewis Smith

On Saturday 19th August, the Ashford AC Senior Team competed in their final match at Tonbridge. They finished in second place, to Tonbridge AC, which placed them 7th overall in the Southern Athletics Division 2 East League out of 16 teams, a huge improvement on last years 11th place.

This season has seen the team go from strength-to-strength, with many younger athletes joining the team.

Becky and Derek are extremely proud of the teams achievement this season, this year was seen as a building block year, with eyes on promotion next season.

If any athletes are moving into the U17 age group upwards next season, and are interested in competing in this League, then please let Becky Dyer or Derek Laws know.
