Chris Hobbs

In 40 years as an athlete Chris has competed in over 20 different countries and has plenty of experience and technical knowledge to pass on to any aspiring race walker.

Chris is a qualified race walking / endurance coach and has coached three young Ashford AC Members to be National (Age groups) Race Walking Champions, plus two more from other clubs and several county medallists.

Chris encourages everyone to try various events and not to specialise too young. Good runners, throwers etc. may also be good race walkers and he can help you get success without giving up other athletic events. So Race Walking Coaching is usually once a week on Thursdays,at the Julie Rose Stadium. Training can be done on the track, out on the roads or in the gym. Technical coaching is usually at the Julie Rose Stadium.

Chris is on the National Coaching and Development Committee and is actively involved in the National Squad Training events.

Race Walking is quite a technical event and Chris is a level 5 (the highest) walking judge so knows what to look for. He is also a level 3 fitness instructor and exercise referral specialist.

Race Walking is also a fun event and a bit special, so coaching is usually fun with Chris Hobbs who always keeps his feet on the ground.
