Double success for teams

The successful Oxney race teams

ASHFORD AC had an excellent day at the Isle of Oxney 5 mile race in Wittersham winning both the mens and women’s team prizes. Leading the way was Matthew Hogben who finished an excellent second in a personal best time of 29:08. He was closely followed by team mate Kevin Williams who was third only four seconds behind in 29:12. Anthonie Van Bosch finished ninth in a time of 31:46.
The women’s team was led home by ladies race winner Janine Brown after finishing 11th overall in a time of 32:26.
Lesley Hall and Jenny Brown finished the race in 28th and 29th place overall respectively to make up the successful Ladies Team.
Other Ashford AC finishers included Matthew Iles in 16th, John Norman in 42nd place and Andrew Huxley in 86th place.

Williams is top veteran

JANINE Brown has also been busy on the roads ending sixth woman home in the Ashford and District 10K with a season best 40:55 following her fine 11th in the Canterbury 10 miler with 68:56.
The A&D 10k was a fine day for the men who ended second team led home by Matt Hogben in a personal best 36:36 in 14th with Matt Briton only a couple of strides back in another best of 36:37. Kev Williams capped a superb run ending first veteran 50 home 18th in 36:48 with young Aaron Kellow also setting a personal best with his 38:55 in 38th.
In fine conditions it was a day of best times with Ronan Donahue 57th in a best of 40:34 with Matt Iles just behind in a PB of 40:49 and Ant Van Bosch clocking another best time of 41:31 for 68th.
Ian King and Lesley Hall are battling back to fitness with 43:56 and 44:19 respectively while multi talented Jenny Brown had a PB 45:08 and Christine King, also coming back from injury, clocked 61:02.

County silver for Amelia

Amelia Jones took county silver

THERE was a brilliant silver medal for Ashford’s Amelia Jones in the Kent cross country championships at Wilmington School, Dartford.
The youngster from Folkestone clocked a superb 16:32 in the Under 17 girls race with teammate Louise Barclay 11th in 20:56.
Ashford’s senior women made club history fielding a squad of six to take eighth team place led home by Janine Brown in 18th with 34:45.
Supporting her were Candy Hawkins 35th in 38:10, Jenny Brown 45th with 39:29, Amanda Jukes in 43:59. Rebecca Weller 59th with 45:50 and Christine King 66th in 52:18.
The ladies were fourth team in the six to score completition.
The U15 girls claimed a fine fifth team slot with Hester Hill 16th with 16:43, Katherine Buckley 17th in 17:21, Rebecca Roddy 21st with 18:08, Katie Lillington 29th in 19:37 and Megan Lillington 32nd in 20:43.
Ashford men had five in action led by Anthony Forsyth 58th in 45:25, with Kev Williams 70th in 46:50, Dylan Jones 107th with 50:17, Steve Kelly 152nd in 55:37 and Ian King 56:11.
In the U20s Andy Robertson was 15th with 30:26 with Warren Uden close behind in 20th with 32:07.
Jack Wreathall was 17th in the U17s with 24:21 with Aaron Kellow 26th 26:08 while the U15s shone with Tim Forsyth eighth in 14:57, Jack Goss a place behind in 15:02 and Declan O’Driscoll 14th with 15:31.
In the U13s Kyle Denning was 17th in 13:21 with Jonathan Stewart 29th with 14:33.
Annamarie Gould was the only Under 13 girls finisher in 36th with 16:59.
